The relentless attacks on President Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser Michael Flynn may be about to pay off. In a renewed firestorm following a story in the anti-Trump Washington Post, Democrats and their media allies have pounced as the Russian conspiracy theories continue to swirl.
Trump’s opponents hit paydirt when anonymous intelligence officials claimed that Flynn’s telephone conversation with Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak was intercepted and that the former head of military intelligence had discussed relief from Obama’s sanctions against Moscow. God forbid that any member of the U.S. government would ever consider anything less than outright hostility towards Russia but as he was still a private citizen at the time Flynn was a target ripe for the picking and has been under assault ever since.
While the initial wave of attacks briefly subsided, the WAPO rekindled the flames when it again published a story citing anonymous sources and later went on to accuse Flynn of lying about the content of the phone calls.
Infuriated after having their faces rubbed into mud last week after failing to derail any of Trump’s cabinet nominees, the Democrats were led by former Saturday Night Live comic turned senator Al Franken on the Sunday morning shows to attack Flynn.
The increasing pressure seems to be working this time and Flynn may be on thin ice according to a bombshell report in the Wall Street Journal.
According to news website The Week “White House reportedly weighing whether to fire Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn”:
Michael Flynn, President Trump’s national security adviser, has been going around the White House apologizing for the drama surrounding his contact with the Russian ambassador to the United States before the inauguration, an administration official told The Wall Street Journal on Sunday.
Flynn had said he and Sergey Kislyak never discussed the sanctions imposed on Russia by former President Barack Obama in response to alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election, and Vice President Mike Pence and other administration officials backed him up. The administration official said that Flynn now admits he did speak with the ambassador about sanctions, multiple times, as reflected in transcripts of his phone calls. White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus is leading the White House’s review of the matter, and some insiders are hopeful that Flynn will resign on his own accord.
Trump has told some people in confidence Flynn is no longer welcome in the White House, while others say he has expressed confidence in him, WSJ reports. Legal experts have said if Flynn promised to ease sanctions once Trump was in office, he may have violated a law that bars private citizens from engaging in foreign policy.
Flynn’s head on a pike would be a prized trophy for the media and the Democrats who have been smearing him for months – ever notice how pretty much every story about him is accompanied by this less than flattering picture?
Flynn’s outspokenness on the threat that is represented by Radical Islam as well as that ISIS was a “willful creation” during the Obama regime has infuriated many – none more so than the former POTUS who fired him for his determination to fight Islamic terrorism.
If the Trump administration believes that throwing Flynn to the wolves will bring them a respite from the left’s savagery they are sorely mistaken. If Trump caves on Flynn it will only encourage his enemies who will swarm like sharks after blood has been spilled in the water.
The media has been overloaded with stories critical of not only Flynn but also Trump advisers Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway as well as White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus in what is an obvious attempt to sow the seeds of discord within the Trump administration and to turn key figures against each other.
More to come on this developing story that could be the left’s first successful counter strike against Trump.
